Rain, Rain go Away....Andrew wants to Play

Well Andrew was with us last week end and we had a very nice time! We went and picked him up from Rachel on Friday night and he was so excited and ran around their apartment showing us all his toys. They have a nice roomy two bedroom apartment and it is quite apparent that a young toddler lives there with toys in every room. One thing for sure he does not lack for things to entertain him!

On Saturday Chris, Alexis, Ray and Alyssa joined us for breakfast. We made milk gravy, biscuits and eggs and after breakfast we played a new game Slam 4. Around 11 we all gathered in to the bedroom and skyped with Sam. Andrew was just so tired and distracted by then he didn’t really talk much to Sam, but at least they were able to see each other for a bit.  Alyssa found out that if you have a touch pad Andrew becomes your best friend…and thinks it belongs to him. So remember if he will not come to you just grab a touch pad and he will definitely be cuddling with you in no time at all!

In the afternoon Andrew and I did our normal activities…color…play cars….read a book…play catch me if you can…play on his touch pad….play on my touch pad….eat snack…and start again. Normally we go for a walk or play outside for a while but it rained all day so we were stuck indoors for the day.

When I told Andrew to get a book he grabbed his favorite one….Bright and Beautiful! His OG (better known as Grandma Louise)  reads it to him several times a week-end he lets her read to him and then drives us all crazy by pushing the button that says “to recorded move to unlocked position”.

Then he started on the touch pad and said to himself….I know that I can play peek-a-boo with OG on this….let’s see if I can figure it out. With determination he began pushing the icons until he found the skype and began calling. Now I only have 3 people he can call…Sam, Mom or September, and none of them would answer.
So I called Mom and she got on the computer and talked with him a bit. It is wonderful how easy you can interact with family that lives hundred/thousand miles away! We talked to Daddy in Iraq this morning and OG in Michigan this afternoon….this is truly amazing!

Update on Sam:
Sam has moved to a new location and should be there for at least a couple months. He is in Umn Qasr, it is a small shipping port in Iraq very close to the Kuwait border. He is managing the store at this location, working 10-12 hours a day 6 days a week. The store is actually a trailer and I think he told me he has a couple employees.
This picture sort of shows what the area looks like where he is living and working. He normally has his own room but I saw on facebook this morning he has a roommate for a couple day…and he SNORES big time. He said that he snores worst than his dad....funny thing...last night Terry had to try out the new bed we bought last weekend because I was snoring to loud....LOL
Well that is it for today….till next time!

Update on Samuel

Well most of you are on Facebook so you can see some of Sam weekly posting but for those of you who are not I thought I would give you an update on where Sam is these days.

He left the US on 2/3/12 and went to Kuwait. Where all you can see is sand LOL. Well the meaning of Kuwait is……… K U are going to WAIT here for a long time so get use to it.

On Friday 2/8/12 he actually got to board a plane for Baghdad but ended up just circling the airport there for a while due to a sand storm and ended back in Kuwait again after a 6 hour flight. And now he is waiting again.

He told me he is eating well, but breakfast is the only meal that tastes good. The Arab McDonalds and KFC aren't too bad, but he has been mainly just eating at the military dining facilities. At least they have a salad bar so it taste pretty good.

We have talked to him several times since he has left and he is doing good just ready to get to Iraq so he has work to keep him busy! He will have to go through this every time he comes home for a visit but luckily they do not start counting his 10 days until he is on US soil!

We heard from Samuel late today and he is actually at the Baghdad Airport where he will be staying in a hotel for the next couple weeks. And he is happy because he will begin to start working 10-12 hours a day!

What a great time to be Alive!

Technology has come so far in my life time it is just amazing! Last weekend Andrew was playing on my touch pad and it began ringing. He looked and me and instantly handed it over to me so I could answer the incoming Skype call from my mom.He laid his head on my shoulder and I tried to line it up so that “OG” (Great-Grandma Louise) could see him as he repeated her name “OG,OG,OG”. Living so far away it is hard for the Great Grandparent to be involved in his life and it is kind of sad. But as I watched OG and Andrew play Pick-a-boo and blow kisses to each other I was so thankful for the advance technology that allows us to all be close even when we are hundreds of miles away from each other!

It is funny that the toy company’s are still making this type of toy…it is an antique phone. I am not sure that Andrew has ever seen this type of phone since we all have cell phones and no longer have land lines in our home. I am sure he would never think of putting the receiver to his ear.

Cameras have improved so much too! When I was born very few people could afford a good one and the picture quality was horrible. Now everyone that has a phone has a camera (if only I could remember this) and they pick up such good details (good and bad). Look at the beautiful eyes of my grandson, this picture has not been enhanced at all these are his true eyes!

Super Bowl NE vs NY

On the way to Chris’s house we stopped by the local 7-11 to pick up some ice and when dad got out of the car Andrew decided to name me. He pointed to Dad and said “Paw Paw” then pointed to me and said “Maw Maw”.

I instantly thought of the crazy Maw Maw on the TV show “Raising Hope” and thought NOOOOoooooooo! But he just smiled and continued to call me that for the rest of the day. So I am guessing that I will be known as the Crazy Maw Maw for the rest of my life….and beyond.

I made Special Cookies for the Game (No not that kind of Special!!!) Usually a batch of my cookies last for about a week at Christmas time but when we left to go home there was only one lonely cookie. Andrew only liked the footballs every time he took a bite of the other ones he would spit them out. But they all have the same frosting just different food coloring….hummmmm.
Super bowl Sunday was very nice it was just family, Rachel and a few of Alexis’s friends, although we really missed Sam at the game. We did skyp with him earlier that day and since the game was in the middle of the night in Kuwait he was going to take a nap and get up and watch at least part of it.

Full week-end of fun 2/3/2012

We went to see Alyssa in her talent show on (2/3/2012) Friday night. She sang a song 'Bubbly' Colbie Caillat.  She looked so grown up in her new dress and did a very good job. Dad and I sat through the entire program and decided we are getting really old….we only recognized two of the songs that were play.

After the show we went to Braum's for ice cream to celebrate this special family night. The girl that waited on us was having a horrible night....the chocolate ice cream was to hard and she was afraid of breaking a nail. Of course everyone in our group wanted CHOCOLATE. It probably didn't help that we all started laughing uncontrolably....but we just could not help it. The people after us wanted chocolate too.

On Saturday we went to Chucky Cheese with Andrew and Rachel for lunch. Our table was right across from a big screen “Ninja Fruit” game and while he was eating he kept eyeballing it. As soon as he was done eating he ran over to it and we played several games on it.

Then he kept running from Machine to machine and we would put in the coin and he would run off to the next one, leaving a trail of adults following behind collecting his tickets.  About a half hour into our trip I realized that I could never keep up with this child on my own…there must always be 2 adults on this type of outing. He made quite a few kids very happy…leaving machines going and when we left we found the most needy looking kid and gave him all the tickets we had collected…LOL

We had a very good time with him!
Later that day I took him for a walk and we got half way down the street and he began yelling “run run run” and started running down the street. Lucky thing my legs are longer than his so I only had to walk at a faster pace. Then all of a sudden he stopped and looked up at me ….I sure he was thinking to himself you are not running….so then he directed me to jump, jump, jump. I thought maybe we should turn around and go back to the house before he had me rolling on the ground. LOL

Pooh Time

My grandson is enjoying some cuddle time with his favorite disney character. I love this picture of my "honey" sandwich. He got the Winnie the Pooh pillow pet from his Great Grandma  Morrison at Christmas time.

Andrew layed down on Pooh and looked up at me and said "Cheese" so I guess he wanted to pose for this picture! He is such a cutie!!!

Well I have decided to try my hand at blogging. Since our family is scattered all over the place and it is so hard to write and communicate with everyone I thought I would start by having one place where everyone could check to get the latest information on Morrison families activities. Not sure it will be very exciting since we are pretty dull but we will see what we can do to spice up our life for the blog sake! Lol...
